The ABCD of Do Re Mi… with BCP!
Over the last few months, Boogie Mites have been breaking through to an international market. Our newest Practitioner Training Package – The ABCD of Do-Re-Mi – based on the four pillars of Boogie Mites’ music methodology gives practitioners a comprehensive, easy-to-follow training package that will motivate them to use music every day, harnessing the developmental and wellbeing benefits of daily music activities for all involved at any Early Years setting.
Having launched in the UK, in collaboration with our partners at Early Years Alliance and Early Years Wales, we decided it was time to explore an international launch in the Early Childhood sector in Australia, where we have some contacts already. We jumped at the chance to work with Portsmouth University Business Consultancy Project (BCP) Module students.
With all the current Wicked hype, we are calling this project:
The Road To Oz
Having already forged a strong partnership with Dr Anita Collins, Australia based neuro-musical researcher and founder of Bigger Better Brains, we had a well-known name to endorse The ABCD of Do-Re-Mi. In June 2024 we met with Dr Anita in London to film an interview and video clips promoting the launch. We knew that there was already interest in the neuroscience links between early years music making and brain development, this was a great opportunity to gain wider awareness for the work we do, supporting development of under-fives through our tried and tested music programmes.
Having already made some connections with Australian educators who had found us online, we felt that we needed a pro-active strategy to get the knowledge of the benefits of Early Years music out to a wider audience and introduce self-paced training modules and the music of Boogie Mites to educators and children across Australia.
Business Consultancy Project (BCP) Collaboration
As an alumna of Portsmouth University Business School, Boogie Mites Operations Director Sue Newman was excited to once again get involved in the BCP opportunity for local businesses to work with a team of final year business students. The Road To Oz project was pitched to the University of Portsmouth with a project description drawn up, and a team of 4 BCP students – Nicole, Neria, Alusine and Michael – were assigned to work with Boogie Mites for 8 weeks from October.
We came up with a strategy to split the team into two sub-teams. One developing an advertising campaign to promote into the Australian market via paid-for Facebook advertising – a fairly new venture for us – and one seeking out potential Early Years partner companies and educational settings that we could connect with via emails and LinkedIn.
The BCP Team, Melodic Minds, began getting to know Boogie Mites training package products and services. Then they looked at suitable target audiences and geographical locations within Australia that leaned towards prioritising Early Years education; with input from someone working in the Australian early education sector they identified the target market. They researched and listed potential partners and strategies for trialling an online advertising campaign, to inform a 3-month omnichannel marketing strategy proposal from January 2025.
Their next step was to develop the content for the advertising campaign and launch it, keeping a close eye on the analytic information as the campaign ran, so that this could inform future decisions and necessary changes to the strategy.
On the 3rd December, our BCP student team presented the final project to a team at the university. We proudly attended this, and wish them every success with the end of their course.

Thinking Back…
In our final meeting ahead of their presentation, we asked them to reflect on the project:
What’s the number 1 thing you got out of this project?
Alusine: The number one thing I got out of this project is the ability to work well in a group and effectively communicate my points and also take into consideration other people’s ideas in order to achieve the businesses desired goals.
Michael: The main thing I gained from this project is the experience of working with a team to handle real-world challenges and deadlines.
Neria: It gave me real-world experience on working with real-clients and gave me a sense of achievement that theory can translate into impactful practice, such as actually helping Boogie Mites expand into an Australian Market, and implementing and launching a Meta Ad campaign.
Nicole: Working together as a team and keeping each other on track.
Tell us something you would change about the process.
Alusine: I would change how the University communicates with the client in terms of having the brief align with what the Client actually wants done by the students.
Michael: I would shift the focus of our presentation from the theoretical aspects to the practical and tangible results we achieved while working with Boogie Mites.
Neria: I think the process was done really well, as it was helpful how organised the whole of Boogie Mites are, the only thing I would change is on the university’s end, making sure that what is required of us matches with the requirements of the client.
What impact do you think this project will have on the way you approach future projects?
Alusine: In regard to future projects I think I’ll be able to be much more patient when producing work whilst ensuring quality control is being considered at all times.
Michael: This project has changed my approach to the different stages of a project, especially highlighting the difference between achieving objectives and presenting those achievements.
Neria: I think this project will have a huge impact, it has taught me how to manage and monitor lots of different aspects required to make a project successful. It has taught me to be more adaptable, and how to work cohesively with a team especially when we are completing different tasks, all this will be very helpful in my future career path as a project manager.
Is there anything you’d like to add?
Neria: I have loved working with Boogie Mites, it has been very interesting learning about the power of music and the science behind this, it has felt very special to be a part of the project and be allowed to actually implement our ideas, helping us understand what works. This has been very fun and made me very passionate about this project, so thank you all for allowing us to work with you.
Our Own Reflections
Looking back on this project so far and the collaborations that are helping us reach a potentially wider audience, it is really rewarding, motivating and inspiring to have worked in this way.
Working with the BCP team has helped to keep us on track with this vision and enabled us to plan a launch in Australia, using a medium we had previously not fully explored. We have particularly enjoyed having an insight from a younger generation and a view that is looking with fresh eyes at our business. We’ve learnt so much from the team in regard to social media advertising, and we’re looking forward to putting our newly acquired knowledge to good use in the near future. We wish Nicole, Neria, Alusine and Michael all the very best in their final months of university and their first steps into professional careers.
