Boogie Mites SEN family sessions
BM SEN family sessions are exclusively for children with additional needs and their families. As the parent of a special needs child, I know there are very few activities available that families can join in together. These sessions give families the opportunity to have musical fun in a supportive environment. Our songs are very interactive, with lots of props and sensory input, and are great fun for children (and adults) of all ages and abilities.
Currently, these take place in Portsmouth Hampshire
These sessions help build confidence, develop social skills and enable children to express themselves, which is particularly important if a young person is non-verbal. Playing with the instruments and props encourages co-ordination, develops motor skills and the sensory input is brilliant for those with visual impairments. We even use our bodies to make music! Perfect for those with hearing impairments, where vibrations and tapping to the rhythm makes sure everyone feels the beat!
It offers the opportunity to come along and have a chat; meet other parents and carers with special needs children. While we find that every child who attends is unique, everyone joins in with Boogie Mites.
Boogie Mites Sensory Processing
At Boogie Mites, we always encourage varied forms of leaning-through-play. Exploring the senses is one of the most imaginative and effective ways to accomplish this. For example, using recycled materials to explore sound and texture, looking through a tissue roll to view the world through a funnel! Using music to describe your favourite food ‘I love chocolate cake!’ and taking a walk to identify different smells…
