Our Resources

Nearly all Boogie Mites resources (programmes, song collections and workshops) can be accessed as fully downloadable packages. Our six programmes can also be ordered as physical products.  Boogie Mites resources all have the following in common;

  • They have been developed over many years with input from teachers, parents and children.
  • They use original music with catchy melodies and a steady beat.
  • They all include active moving to music, singing and percussion activities using recycled materials for props and instruments.
  • Each song has linked activities to introduce, extend and progress it.
  • They take the Early Years Foundation Stage 7 Areas of Learning and the neuroscience research studies into account, linking to both.
  • They are fully inclusive for children of all abilities, with children accessing the activities at different levels depending on their stage of development.
  • Regular practise of the songs and linked activities in a group session at the setting and/or one to one in the home are required to achieve maximum potential impact on development.

Testimonials:

“I have been on many music courses for SEN and none of them are a patch on Boogie Mites. I find that every Boogie-Mites song offers a superb experience for each and every child and baby whether they are developing typically or not. When attending classes there is no way that their speech, language and communication development won’t develop in some way!

For the youngest baby, or very early developmental stages, there is so much to experience as they observe, hear and feel rhythm as their parent moves them along to a variety of fun songs. With regular attendance this will develop as they start to vocalise, anticipate, clap their hands and move to the music independently.

The toddler will be able to copy actions and Makaton signs used, can dance with free expression, sing along with key words or the simple and ‘catchy’ repetitive choruses, They can join in with the animal and transport sounds in, many of the themes whilst they’re richly stimulated by the colourful props and resources used, and their concentration skills will improve!

The 2-4 year old as well as absorbing information about the world around them , will have increased  experiences about using their voices to make high, low, slow, fast, quiet and loud sounds. They will be able to join in with simple clapping rhythms and actions to songs as well as ‘acting out’ in song. For example; from egg, to caterpillar, to cocoon, to butterfly also helping the sequence process.

They have the repetition in the songs to enable them to join in for all or some of the songs all whilst their socialisation skills are also encouraged!

Whatever the developmental stage, age or diagnosis of the under-5’s, I’d highly recommend Boogie-Mites to enable the child’s speech and language development to improve in some way.” Marg Dunne, Portage Team Manager, Fareham and Gosport Portage Service

“Our Early Years setting is a school for children with a range of special needs, including those with severe learning difficulties and social communication issues such as autism.

Eleven children in Reception class. Most non-verbal on entry in September.  An enormous challenge has been to develop children’s communication skills, particularly their social communication skills, as they are typically very poor on entry into the school.

Boogie Mites music has been an indispensable resource that has helped staff to engage all the children in lively, fun activities which have supported the children’s social communication, speech and language skills.  The music is refreshingly original and accessible to the children, all of whom have been able to access the songs at their own level – Yanto will zoom around the room making aeroplane noises to the song ChooChooChoo and Freddy will perform the actions whilst singing along to the chorus.  The songs lend themselves brilliantly to a range of activities, which focus not only on key skills such as literacy and communication, but also on gross motor, numeracy and social skills.  I have found that this makes them highly adaptable and that I am able to use them as a springboard into a range of lessons.  Children actively engage with the songs and associated activities, showing immense enjoyment as well as developing their skills as more effective and competent communicators.

Sean is a Year 1 child with severe learning difficulties, who is currently non-verbal.  He loves music and he lights up when his favourite songs are sung to him.  We sang Crocodile as a class, carrying out the actions, snapping our hands together, stomping around the classroom, the children having a whale of a time.  The song finished and Sean came up to me, clapping his hands together as the crocodile did in the song, showing that he wanted to sing it again.  He indicates his recognition of his favourite Boogie Mites songs by repeating the actions and is able to and what is more important, wants to communicate this to us, which is an exceptionally big step forward for him.” Emma Whewell, Year R Teacher, Cliffdale School, Portsmouth

I am a state registered Occupational Therapist with over 15 years experience of working with disabled children, of all ages and abilities in a wide variety of both statutory and voluntary settings.  I believe the Boogie Mites Music and Movement Workshops have a huge amount to offer children with special needs and I am keen to develop this area of Boogie Mites. In my professional opinion the Boogie Mites songs are ideal to be used with children with a wide range of special needs.  The songs and standard Boogie Mites session format can be easily adapted to suit the needs of children with a wide range of abilities, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities, and for those with profound and multiple disabilities.  For those children, a Boogie Mites music session can be fun and enjoyable whilst providing many opportunities to develop a wide variety of skills.”  Susie Quinlan, OT

Testimonials:

“Both the children and the adults thoroughly enjoyed the workshop.  It was very practical and engaged the children from the start; even the children who would normally just watch wanted to join in.  “Dan the Can” was the children’s favourite and making music with recyclable materials.  The workshop has given us ideas to promote healthy living especially regarding fruit and vegetables.  Using their colours as a matching game introduced the children to new fruits and vegetables that they were not familiar with, like broccoli.  We loved the idea of the children having a soft toy to lie down with and rest as a calming down activity at the end.  We would definitely recommend this Healthy Living themed music workshop.” Jackie Johnston, Pre-school Leader, Oliver’s Battery Pre-school, Winchester

“I have started up sessions with the children using the healthy living programme. I tend to do all the different rooms at the same time but on different days e.g Babies, Toddlers, Transition and Kindergarden, so all children get a chance to be involved with it. The children seem to enjoy it and really engage with it and listen well to me. It is a great opportunity for them to learn about what is healthy and how to eat well. The children really enjoy singing ‘Yummy Yummy Yummy’ which is a great catchy song and not only does it give them a chance to choose what healthy foods they like to eat but it also gives them a chance to develop their language skills by tapping out word rhythms. This programme is also a great opportunity for the children to get involved with more physical activity and to develop healthy habits as well. When the children have had a busy period doing creative activities or playing outside, I tend to calm them all down by introducing the song ‘Happy Cat’ this is a lovely relaxing song where the children can be cats, lions, frogs and butterflies. I even find it relaxing too! After the sessions the children go back to their rooms and tell the other children and the teachers what songs they have done in Boogie Mites which is great!” Claire Hickley, Yellow Dot Nursery Otterbourne.

Testimonials:

“Really enjoyable training, looking forward to using the Minis Programme in my setting. I can’t wait to make some instruments with the children and use more props. Very good in to learn how to put {songs and activities} into the planning.  Really enjoyed it, fun for all ages (even adults). I really liked the training and think it’s great that it all links to the EYFS, it’s given me many new ideas. I liked the remixed songs and beating the drums. Lots of fun and things to do in the future. Made me realise different aspects of how music links to the EYFS. It has helped me to recognise that songs are not just for singing, they help children to learn through all areas of their development. Very well put together and delivered. Well-paced with a good mixture of theory, listening and participation” Comments from Paint Pots Nursery Group Practitioners following training.

Testimonials:

“We have used Boogie Mites School Ready Literacy and Maths programmes at Crocodoodle Creative Pre-School for the last few years and absolutely love the catchy songs, the involvement from the children and most importantly, the excellent skills the children are practising and developing while singing, dancing and music making – in a fun, holistic and inclusive way. Personally, I have found the training videos and suggestions really useful as I am no music expert! However, as I have become more familiar with the programme, some of our activities and routines have been adapted to fit our environment and particular cohorts of children. We have used most of the songs in the Boogie Mites programmes without having to separate age groups/abilities as every child benefits from the experience in their own way and at their own level. I am delighted that the programmes are now available as downloads making the programme more accessible and even more useful – we will definitely be taking Boogie mites outside now to utilise more space, more fresh air and more freedom to involve music (both inside and out) in more ways across our curriculum.Thank you so much Boogie Mites for making music a more accessible tool to promote learning and development and such a fun and exciting way to improve maths and literacy skills! Many Thanks” Maria, Crocodoodle Pre-school, St. Peter’s Catholic Primary School, Sullington Way ShorehamBy-Sea.

Video Introduction to the Programme

Testimonials:

“Our setting recently invested in the Boogie Mites School Ready training CD/DVD.  I cannot express how thrilled everyone is with the programme. It is practical, easy to use and follow, informative and supportive. We particularly love the way it is presented in a setting, making it realistic to the viewer. It is also an investment as any new staff can easily have access to the training. We cannot believe the positive results we have had already! Listening and attention skills have really improved and even the more reserved of children are joining in with singing and music making. Boogie Mites is now permanently scheduled in to our daily planning and we are looking at extending the training to our parents. It’s such an easy and fun way of re-enforcing the delivery of the EYFS and the benefits are numerous.” Jo Lovegrove (Manager), Little Smilers, Cranmer Primary School, Mitcham, Surrey

“I am a huge fan of your materials, finding you through the fabulous ICAN website. I now have the School Ready CD/DVD and have been using it with my  pre-schoolers. As a primary teacher and early years specialist as well as the setting’s SENCO, I recognise high quality resources when I see them and can’t thank you enough for the great learning and fun we have using your materials, particularly as I am not gifted musically one iota!” Faye Flude, Bolnore Village Pre-School, Haywards Heath

“After reading the School Ready programme pack notes and watching the videos provided with the Boogie Mites programme I now understand the importance of music and singing for all children’s holistic development. I feel much more confident in how to deliver the sessions, safe in the knowledge it had been tried and tested successfully by other practitioners. I spend most of my day singing 🙂 I have found the links on the activity cards to the areas of the EYFS very helpful as I can see quickly which aspects are covered if I have a development gap that I need to cover that week/term. Thank you Boogie Mites for developing a programme that really develops linguistics, confidence and most of all is fun for all!”  Rachel Sara Collyer (Goldthorn Park Primary School Nursery, Ward Road, Wolverhampton
