Children love this exciting way to enliven a favourite traditional song. A group of children can all row together using a large piece of blue lycra to indicate the stream. Soft toys representing the animals in the song can bounce around in the lycra as the children row. The song offers opportunities to develop working together, learn about different animals, explore sound and tune into rhythm. Gonna Tap
Children love tapping their sticks and banging their drums and this song involves both! As well as being lots of fun, the strong steady beat of the song encourages children to tap and bang in time to the rhythm, supporting listening skills. They will also develop an awareness of pattern as they alternate between banging and tapping. Working as a group, following instruction and fine motor skills are all supported as the children play their instruments. And if you don’t have sticks or drums, then wooden spoons and cardboard boxes make a great substitute. The song resource includes a song mp3, teacher notes and a video.
