Musical Entrainment in Storytelling to Promote Prosocial Behaviours.
This April, join Music Education Specialist Astamarie Hodgson and Boogie Mites Trainer Tasha for an exciting, interactive webinar exploring how musical entrainment (synchronisation) can enhance cooperation, empathy, and prosocial behaviours in young children. Astamarie will introduce the concept of entrainment, share insights from her own research, and guide participants through a hands-on storytelling activity using rhythm and simple percussion to demonstrate its impact. Together, you’ll evaluate how these principles can be applied in your own context, with space for reflection and discussion. Tasha will then share two original Boogie Mites songs, highlighting the role of music and rhythmic awareness in nurturing social connection and emotional growth. By the end of the session, you will not only understand the science behind entrainment but also feel confident and inspired to incorporate imaginative, music-infused activities into both musical and “non-musical” storytelling sessions.
You will have access to a recording of the session for one week after the live date.

Course Tutors
Tasha Bretten has been working as a Boogie Mites teacher and trainer since 2020 following 13 years as a Primary School Teacher working across all year groups, with a passion for supporting children’s literacy and musical development. Tasha is a trained opera singer but having said this she is first to say: “ You don’t have to be a trained singer to lead Boogie Mites. You can do it!”
Astamarie Hodgson grew up in Southeast England. Her early musical engagement was as a cellist, before she went on to gain a BMus in performance from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She then undertook a PGCE in Secondary Music and Specialist String Teaching from Man Met Uni in conjunction with Royal Northern College of Music, where she also started her interest in Early Years (Junior projects at the RNCM), Kodaly, and Dalcroze teaching methods. Asta is a Dalcroze certified practitioner, and has been working with full QTS in nurseries, children’s centres and schools in UK, Russia, Myanmar, and Malaysia for almost 20 years, and has now relocated as a freelance music educator, facilitator and trainer in Salisbury. Asta’s specialism in Early Years musical development, musical play, and entrainment has been developed over years of experience, personal development and research (MA in the Psychology of Music in Performance Education and Wellbeing – published study from this time), and she has written articles and featured on podcasts discussing this area of expertise.
