Boogie Mites mission is to offer early years practitioners and families, the knowledge, resources and confidence to harness the brain boosting fun of active music making each and every day!
We often focus on the benefits of our music activities to build strong cognitive foundations for listening, language, literacy and learning generally. Neuroscience evidence and evaluation of Boogie Mites projects show the benefits for children’s development in these areas. The evidence also highlights the benefits of daily Boogie Mites music activities for wellbeing, of the educators as well as the children.
This collaboration between Phoenix and Boogie Mites provides a training package that focuses on the wellbeing benefits of our music activities as explained through the Phoenix Cups Framework. Neuroscience studies find that music can influence our emotions, motivation to move, social cohesion and self-regulation, and we all know this from our own experience. Music activities can play a valuable part in supporting our wellbeing, adults and children, but are we harnessing this as a tool for wellbeing in early education? Combining the Phoenix Cups Framework with music is a no-brainer as an approach for enriching our lives.
This seven-module self-paced course takes a close look at wellbeing and self-care, taking into account the findings of neuroscience studies which show that music can influence our emotions, motivation to move, social cohesion and self-regulation, playing a valuable part in supporting the wellbeing of both adults and children. Coupled with the psychological science behind the Phoenix Cups Framework which looks closely at human behaviour and motivation to meet basic human life needs, the Music and Wellbeing training package for Early Years Educators provides a joined-up approach to helping us to understand our 5 basic human needs, represented by the 5 Phoenix Cups, and how music can play a part in meeting these needs.
The Boogie Mites ABCD Music Methodology underpins all that we do. For over 25 years, Boogie Mites has worked with early years children, teachers, parents, practitioners and advisors. Our methodology, our music programmes and training, are informed by their feedback, evolving neuroscience evidence and continual evaluation of our work.
Course guidance
We suggest that you undertake one module per week and use the rest of that week to introduce and practice each new song with your children. By the end of week seven you will be ready to put all of the songs together into a 40-minute music circle time workshop. The tips for facilitating the workshop introducing and extending each song are available via our Boogie Mites CustomerHub platform.
The circle is where the fun is, it’s where the catchy music, props, instruments and activities attract the attention of the children. They all want to be a part of a well-run music circle time that is informed by understanding different children’s needs. Children are happy to follow the lead as they learn to master new skills, they delight in the co-regulation of group music making connection, they feel safe and secure as they repeat music activities remembering the rhythms patterns of action and notes. They become more confident to express their own interpretation of music, enjoying freedom to practise their new skills in free play music time.
