Here is the feedback from one of Vanessa’s training workshops:

Wonderful morning. Loved every song! The links between the programme, early years development and the EYLF are excellent and make such sense. Everyone working in an early years setting should be using this programme ” Jackie Robinson, St. Brigid’s School, Collie, Western Australia

Nutspace is run by husband and wife partnership Mukul and Rohini. This is what they think of Boogie Mites:

“All sessions at NutSpace begin with the fabulous music of Boogie Mites. Be it with the NutSpace theme song (created by Boogie Mites) or the warm-up numbers in the School Ready program, we start our sessions by jumping, giggling, shouting and jiggling on the beats of Boogie Mites music.

Children often do not have the words to express themselves and need positive ways to release their emotions. Dancing to music helps them build their motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression at the same time. Additionally the music uplifts the spirits and augments the energy levels of every participant in the session.

Boogie Mites is a perfect package with the right beats and words thereby not only setting the scene for us at but also fostering intellectual, social and emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy skills.

Easy-to-make instruments like ‘shakers’ and ‘drums’ that go along with the music encourage hand-eye coordination, thereby take the learning to another level altogether.

In addition to the other benefits of music, Boogie Mites provides us with pure joy. Truly music brings people together and bridges geographical boundaries. I am so glad I discovered Boogie Mites! “ Rohini, NutSpace Parent Centre Kanpur, India

Slovakia

Find out what our partners in Bratislava have to say:

“At the British International School Bratislava (BISB) our Early Years centre is made up of children from all around the world, aged between 2 and 5 years. We started using Boogie Mites last year and have found the user-friendly music and movement activities have helped all our children develop their bodies and brains. We follow the phonic scheme ‘Letters and Sounds’ and since we began using Boogie Mites it has transformed the scheme into an energetic, musical and, most importantly, enjoyable circle time activity for our Nursery classes. For many of the children in our care this is often the first time they have been left by their parents and sometimes their first exposure to English. The original songs are very appealing and encourage children to join in and build confidence as they settle into their new environment, at the same time enriching and extending their vocabulary. Even children without any English can take part, and in my experience, the adults in the setting are usually enjoying themselves, too!

We also use Boogie Mites with Reception age children as part of an after school club. They are always enthusiastic at taking part and it is a great way of reinforcing in an enjoyable way. The teacher notes that accompany the CD provide the practitioners with a short, simple explanation of what to do as well as suggestions for extension and support. The instructions are ‘stand-alone’ and not part of a book so can be referred to without being cumbersome. I am delighted with the music and activities Boogie Mites has to offer and look forward to future songs as Boogie Mites becomes a valued part of our International classroom”. Jude Marriott  Early Years Leader, British International School Bratislava. Slovakia

“Over the last term we have been introducing the Boogie Mites School Ready and Minis programme to our children within EYFS (2-5 years) at the British International School Bratislava (BISB). The programme brings active learning of sounds, words and phrases which the children really enjoy. Using the rhythm sticks has given the children confidence to participate in our sessions and repeat phrases and words, which they were not always able to do during our circle activities. It has helped our non-English speaking children in particular.

From my observations, the rhythm sticks allow the children to participate initially without having to say anything. The children can happily tap and make sounds and rhythms, which goes hand in hand with developing linguistic skills. As they become more confident, the children start to join in with the songs.

It has been wonderful to engage the children in such fun activities, which teach through multiple intelligences – musical, kinesthetic, spatial, visual, interpersonal and logical – this makes it accessible to all our nationalities here. Our aim at BISB is to provide an engaging play based curriculum through the medium of English and Boogie Mites has been a fantastic addition to our programme of Early Years educationKate King, EYFS, TLA BISB

About the training

The practitioners learned about the scientific research that links music making to early years development, learned the songs and musical activities in each programme and used small group break out sessions to discuss how the new musical ideas and songs can be implemented in each classroom. There was also a craft session so practitioners could have hands on experience of making a DIY music kit from recycled objects.

To support the successful implementation of the music and movement training, each setting has a resource pack which includes a training DVD so that practitioners can refresh the training and share with new colleagues. Also included is a song CD and at-a-glance teaching notes for each which cover delivery and progression as well as a guide to how each song supports early years learning outcomes.

Implementation is further be supported by designating a “music champion” for each setting, is responsible for the implementation of the music training. Each “music champion” will have 24 hour access to the programme resources via the Boogie Mites online music hub and in this way will be able to disseminate songs, videos and teaching notes throughout the setting as required.

Practitioner’s Comments:

“It has been very valuable. I find it interesting and easy to apply with the children. They will use their full brain learning with music. They will enjoy themselves and have fun and improve their fine and gross motor skills. It helps them develop their vocabularies and make them more confident to make new friends by working and dancing as a team.” Marian Salib, KG1 LA, The Childrens Garden

“Very valuable as it helped me think in a wider way about how to connect music with everything else to make an activity that will really be loved by the children.” Amira Salem, Nursery Class Teacher, The Childrens Garden Jumeira

Here is the feedback from Louise:

“The Child Development Centre has been using Boogie Mites for over two years now. We use the Boogie Mites Music Programme to Support Phase 1 Letters and Sounds and have found this to be an excellent resource to support children’s early literacy development. Our issue in the past has been meeting the wide range of learners needs in a multilingual classroom. Boogie Mites has helped us to resolve this through fun and engaging music activities that directly match the Letters and Sounds learning objectives. The teachers notes are clear and easy to use and help with planning, especially with cross curriculum activities, in particular physical development. We genuinely feel that Boogie Mites has had a positive impact on children’s learning.”  Louise Thomas, The Child Development Centre, Hong Kong
