Developing Literacy Foundations Through Music

£30.00 Inc VAT

Join Boogie Mites tutor Tasha Bretten in an online training workshop which will focus on the potential for effective music practice to boost foundations for literacy in early years.

Training via zoom coming soon at 7-8:30pm.

Supporting development of foundations for literacy learning is a key topic for early years. Literacy skills are key to accessing education throughout school years and hence to educational achievement. Whether or not a child learns to communicate effectively in early years directly impacts their life chances. However, in 2018 28% of children were behind ‘expected level’ communication and literacy at the end of Reception year according to EYFS profiles. Once children fall behind, it is hard for them to catch up and they are likely to fall further behind throughout school. It is crucial, then, that we start early and make sure that all young people—regardless of background—have access to opportunities to develop strong communication, language and literacy skills in the early years.

Join Boogie Mites Trainer Tasha Bretten to learn how to support development of strong foundations for literacy through music. Discover how neuromusical evidence shows us that music can provide a valuable tool for strengthening phoneme and phonological awareness, ready for reading and writing at school. Tasha will look at the EYFS literacy links with music activities and give an overview of the Boogie Mites School Ready Music Programme covering 4 songs in detail, how to introduce them, extend and adapt for children at different stages of development.

Don’t worry if you can’t attend the live time, a recording of the training will be added to you customer hub account and available to view for one week.
