Parents are a child’s first teacher and most enduring educators, one of the best ways we can support the development of a child in early years is to support their parents. They haven’t had the same training and experience as practitioners, so they need education, confidence and resources to help them provide a rich and safe learning environment for their child. All parents want the best outcomes for their children, early years is such a vital phase when they have such an influence and can put the foundations in place so that their child can thrive at school and beyond.
Neuro-musical evidence suggest that music in early years can play a vital role to help parents and wider family to bond and engage with their child.
In this training session, early childhood consultant Sue Asquith will share her knowledge about parental engagement, what the data shows us about the attainment gap for children with disadvantaged backgrounds, what Ofsted looks for and how we can support parents through our childcare settings. Sue will offer tips and ideas for parental engagement and signposting.
Boogie Mites Trainer Tasha Bretten will then focus on the potential for effective music to play a part in parental engagement, covering neuro-musical evidence and research evidence. Boogie Mites offer parent education courses through local authority funded contracts and see amazing outcomes that Tasha will share. She will cover the format of parent education group music sessions, the aims and evaluating the impact. This will be followed by an interactive session when you will be invited to join in and learn 4 Boogie Mites taster songs, one from each of our core programmes for age groups 3-5 years, 2-3 years and under 2’s and one from our Healthy Living Programme. You can then trial them with your parents and children to share the knowledge and promote home music making yourselves.
