Music Helps to Combat Childhood Obesity
Ok, so we all know that we should exercise regularly and encourage children to do the same. We also know that’s not so easy when time and money is scarce. But with new guidelines published on Monday by the Department of Health, recommending that toddlers should be physically active for three hours a day, the pressure is on to get moving. The Boogie Mites Music Programme to support Healthy Living shows how families with young children, can sing and dance their way to fitness.
“The songs are so motivating and such a great way to share the healthy living message with my 3 year old daughter,“ said one Mum who attended a Boogie Mites Fitness and Health Course at her local Children’s Centre. Forget about stage Mums and toddlers smeared in panstick, Boogie Mites Music Programme to Support Fitness and Healthy Living is a collection of funky original songs and fun-to-do activities that encourage families to develop the healthy habits that last a lifetime. As Harriet Thomas, Creative Director of Boogie Mites explains “The programme was put together in partnership with the Healthy Pompey team at Portsmouth City Council and has been developed specifically with families with young children in mind. I’ve had a lot of fun writing these songs and now I hope you can enjoy them with your families.”
Packed full of Boogie Mites’ funky original songs and accompanied by an easy-to-follow booklet, the Boogie Mites Healthy Living Programme is a great place to start if you want to encourage your family to Move More, Eat Well, Enjoy Outdoor Play And become involved in Recycling. There are foot stamping action songs, songs about playing football in the park, songs about growing your own veggies and even songs that make recycling fun! Your children will also get the added benefit of being involved in musical activities that support communication skills, confidence and creativity.
